What do I do with my engagement ring

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Should I take off my engagement ring for the ceremony or should my fiance put the wedding band on top of my engagement ring during the exchange?

The wedding band should be the first ring on your ring finger, then the engagement ring.  Rather than fumble at the alter with the switch, stow your engagement ring in a safe place during the ceremony.  If you do not want to part with it, switch it to your right hand before you walk down the aisle.  On the way back to the reception, your new husband can move your engagement ring back to its rightful place.

I think Morgan liked her Zebra Cake

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Morgan (MoMo as she is called) wanted a Zebra cake for her birthday.  Well, she got her Zebra inside and out.

Her mom says:

The Cake was a huge hit with Morgan and all of the girls.  It was delicious as well as adorable.

Kind Regards,

Nancy and Morgan Schollhammer

Your ringbearer keeps flinging the ring pillow to the floor.

This is why you   us fake rings on a pillow.  Ask his mom to step in.  If she can’t stop the tyke form tossing it, don’t force him to walk.  Instead, seat him with his parents, and let the wedding go on without him.

Remember to book your honeymoon in…

your maiden name. Airlines require that the name on your photo ID and/or passport matches the name on your ticket (No special consideration for newlyweds), and you can’t change your IDs until after wedding.

Once you have your marriage certificate in Hand…

notify ever institution that has your name on file.  The most important include the Social Security office, your state’s department of motor vehicles, the IRS (YUK). and your employer.

You should write a list of everywhere you need to change your name from your bank to FB and the website where you can do it.  If there is no web site to do it at, get the paperwork, have it filled out, signed, addressed, stamped and ready to go.

Everthing you can do ahead of time saves lots of time after the wedding.

Changing your name?

Planning to do the paperwork yourself?  Just down load the forms at www.formsguru.com or order a kit ($20) from www.NameThatBride.com.  Or skip the hassle by hiring a firm to most of the work for you, like www.MissNowMrs.com (from$20).

This is something you many want to do prior to the wedding so most of it is done when you get home from your honeymoon.

Forget the lint roller.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

And  forget about pressing “repeat” on the washer and dryer until the pet hair and lint com off your clothes.  Take a yard of cheap nylon net and throw it into your wash with the fuzzy items.  Instead of spreading all over the place, the lint and hair will head straight for the net.

Father’s Day is….

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

a day honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.  It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 55 of the world’s countries and other days elsewhere.

Father’s Day is a celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother’s Day celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. It is also celebrated to honor and commemorate our forefathers. Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, a

speciality cakes and family-oriented activities. The first observance of Father’s Day is believed to have been held on June 13, 1910 through the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. After listening to a church sermon at Spokane’s Central Methodist Episcopal Church in 1909 about the newly recognized Mother’s Day, Dodd felt strongly that fatherhood needed recognition, as well. She wanted a celebration that honored fathers like her own father, William Smart, a Civil War veteran who was left to raise his family alone when his wife died giving birth to their sixth child.

We are thinking of having a dry reception.

Friday, June 18th, 2010

You’re are hosting the party, so whether or not to serve alcohol is completely your call.  Though some guest may be surprised, it shouldn’t put a damper on your festivities.  Don’t feel you need to let them know on the invites-unless it’s a dinner-won’t-be-severed announcement that kind of info is best left to word of mouth.  As for the toast, many couples offer sparkling cider or juice in lieu of champagne so guest can raise their glasses.  Hey, water works just as well.

ONE MORE GUEST PLEASING IDEA!

ORGANIZING THE FOOD STATIONS.

Even though people expect long lines at wedding buffets, here's your chance to buck the trend and eliminate the chafing-dish clogged lines. Instead of having one buffet table or station that all guests approach from the same direction.  Position the table so it's not against  a wall;  this will allow guests to get to it from both sides.  Then have identical dishes of food on both sides of the table.  If you're having 100 or more guests it would be good a good idea to have two separate buffet tables.

If you are not setting up for your own reception or special occasion, ask your caterer to set up the buffet tables this way.
